A biography (biopic) tilted “A Giant Among Men” of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, minister for Higher & Technical and Urban Development was formally released by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, at ‘The Heritage’ Old DC Bungalow, Kohima Monday.
Releasing the book, Rio said that the biography, published by The Global Open University, Nagaland was a tribute to Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu for his notable works and a documentation of his illustrious career. It also contained other outstanding achievements and contributions for the benefit of the present and future generations, he said.
The chief minister also congratulated The Global Open University, Nagaland for taking the initiative in bringing out the biography. He expressed the hope that the book would not only be used as an important reference in libraries, but serve to inspire readers, both present and future generations in emulating Dr. Shürhozelie’s example to become productive citizens of this country and the world.
Congratulating Dr. Shürhozelie, he said “as the chief minister of Nagaland and as a fellow Naga, I feel proud and privileged to have a distinguished colleague like him”.
The chief minister said Dr Shürhozelie has been an invaluable asset to present and previous ministries with his vast knowledge and experience in the field education and literature, public service and governance, parliamentary proceedings and law making.
He also lauded Dr. Shürhozelie as a seasoned parliamentarian, who was well versed with the rules and procedures of the house. Rio also said his contributions to the proceedings of the state assembly were appreciated by both the ruling and opposition benches.
The chief minister also pointed out that out of the 11 legislative assemblies, Dr. Shürhozelie has been a member in eight, constituted since the inception of the state.
“That is no mean achievement. It speaks volume about him as a leader and as a successful politician”, he added.
Rio in his speech narrated Dr Shürhozelie’s political career spanning more than 30 years from being a member of the Democratic Party of Nagaland, winning his first election as United Front of Nagaland (UFN) in 1969 and as current president of the NPF.
Rio also mentioned about Dr Shürhozelie’s contributions to society an in particular, his contributions towards development of Tenyidie language and literature under Ura Academy as president for the past forty years.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shürhozelie expressed deepest gratitude and appreciation to the state chief minister for gracing the occasion to release the biography, the Global Open University, Nagaland, Producer/Director Sandila and all those involved in the project.
Imotemsu Ao, director of The Global Open University, Nagaland delivered the welcome address and word from the producer was given Sandila of Busy Bee Film, words of appreciation from the family of Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu by I. Alempokba and vote of thanks was given by Dr. RC Murry, OSD, The Global Open University.
