State blood transfusion council governing body meeting, which was held at new secretariat Kohima, health and family welfare department’s conference hall on July 16 discussed and deliberated on overview of blood safety and voluntary blood donation activities in the state.
The committee discussed the objectives to reiterate firmly the government commitment to provide safe and adequate quantity of blood, blood components and blood products.
Members present at the meeting said remaining three new districts like Peren, Longleng and Kiphire would also set up blood bank with the facility of cold storage in the district.
During the meeting, district wise achievements were highlighted where Tuensang district significantly increased in blood collection. The meeting also informed that blood collection status for the year 2011 was targeted at 8000 and district wise target break-up for 2011-12 for collection at blood bank was 8200 targeting 120 camps.
The committee also approved annual action plan for the year 2011-12 and unanimously approved `30,000 as a renewal of blood bank licence fee in the state.
Awareness and motivation camps for voluntary blood donation camp amounting to `3,00,000 and periodic thematic meeting of medical officers of blood banks `35,000 and awareness and motivation for other organisation and blood collection `80,000 and observation of world blood donors day expenditure `35,000 was also approved by the council in the meeting. The members also suggested that more focus should be given to the college and higher secondary students in conducting blood donation drive. Up-gradation of Dimapur Blood Bank to Model Blood Bank with blood component separation unit also discussed at the meeting.
