One day training cum demonstration program on “Banana Fibre Extraction” was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema in collaboration with KVK (ICAR), Wokha on July 15. Shying Shyu, EAC Wokha was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest encouraged the participating farmers to take up the venture on a large scale and also encouraged the youth to take up banana fibre production which is a viable venture for self employment. Lanu branch manager SBI Wokha highlighted the farmers about loan scheme being implemented by the bank and also assured to provide all possible help in terms of loan for taking up agriculture and allied activities.
Further, N. Khumdemo Ezung, program coordinator (i/c) KVK (ICAR) Wokha requested farmers to take full advantage of the program, which was the first of its kind in Wokha district.
Meanwhile, resource persons Arvind Singh, technical consultant CIH Medziphema and Jessica Dohtdong, PA (Home Science) KVK Wokha spoke on the topics such as importance and uses of natural fibre, selection of raw materials for fibre extraction and tips for quality fibre production.
Practical demonstration on banana fibre extraction and tips on maintenance of the machine was conducted by Arvind Singh. Around 90 farmers participated in the program along with officials from agri and allied departments. Further, programme coordinator KVK Wokha on behalf of the farmers expressed gratitude to the director CIH Medziphema for sponsoring the program.
