Nagaland University Registrar Dr. P.H. Naik, observing the various allegations leveled against him by the Nagaland University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA), joint staff and students of Nagaland University, has issued a statement clarifying his stand.
While appealing the University to take a positive decision in resolving the issue, Naik however apologised for hurting the sentiments of the members of Nagaland University community, villagers, “underground brethrens” and people of Nagaland because of his letter to MHRD, dated 19-11-2010. Naik however alleged that Prof. K. Kannan, vice chancellor, Nagaland University Chancellor forced him (Naik) to agree to the latter’s ideas which were contrary to the development of the Nagaland University.
The registrar said that in the midst of agitations in the university, the vice chancellor allegedly asked him to tender his resignation, besides removing basic necessities from his office and home, and consequently compelled him to tender his resignation as NU registrar owing to “frustration and disturbance”.
“As there was no reasonable cause for accepting my resignation, the vice chancellor dictated me to write the letter to the MHRD, stating the unfavorable local situation to make it a pre-condition for acceptance of the resignation”, revealed Dr. Naik.
Disclosing that he was yet to receive salary for the past many months, Naik said he had to seek redressal from the High Court as he had no other means of income to support his family, and asserted he withdrew his resignation letter and the Court case so he could re-join the University which was ultimately denied.
On allegations leveled against him for serving at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University at Lucknow, Naik said he got the opportunity to serve there on the condition that he should submit his relieving order from Nagaland University. However since his relieving order was not issued he felt “opportunity to earn livelihood is now lost which is denial of basic human rights, right to earn and right to live”.
