Following power department’s failure to initiate positive steps in response to its representation June 14 last to the state power minister, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on Wednesday started to picket the office of Chief Engineer (CE) Power department at AG colony Kohima.
More than hundred NSF volunteers gathered outside the CE office, blocking entry to the building and paralyzing normal office works.
Talking to Nagaland Post, NSF president Kelhouneizo Yhome claimed that day-one of the picketing was successful and it would continue indefinitely till the government and responsible department gave positive response.
It was learnt that the NSF would further intensify its agitation if the government failed to pay heed to its demand.
District administration and police personnel were deployed to the CE office premises to ensure that no untoward happening took place.
In its memorandum issued June 14, the NSF strongly denounced backdoor appointments in the power department and urged the government to immediately cancel the appointments and channel it to the Nagaland Public Service Commission for requisition within 5 days.
NSF stand is that, by canceling of backdoor appointments, Naga educated youths would be given ample opportunity to compete in the right platform.
The NSF disclosed that in addition to the previous list of backdoor appointments, 5 post of JE (E); 2 post of HE (C); 1 post of S.O (E) Gr.-II; 1 post of J.E (M); 3 posts of SDO (E) Class-I (Gazetted) were also included.
