Close on the heels of the decision of the state cabinet on July 23, to recommend to the government of India for creation of Autonomous Council for areas encompassing Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire districts, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has resolved to stick by its May 25, 2007 decision taken at Tuensang headquarter demanding a full-fledged state (Frontier Nagaland).
ENPO however, expressed appreciation of the “kind gesture and sagacity of the state cabinet” which it described as “undeniably ground-breaking” in an effort to address the memorandum of the people of Eastern Nagaland “for a full-fledged statehood.
ENPO vice president Yonglong Konyak and general secretary Toshing Wangtung, Friday reaffirmed that the demand for statehood stood “un-negotiable and uncompromising”.
In a joint statement the two ENPO office bearers noted statements and opinions from various quarters during the past few months which they said, created “unprecedented confusion and unwanted propaganda” among the people of the state on their demand for statehood from the government of India for the six tribes of eastern Nagaland. The signatories said their reassertion of ENPO stand was to make it clear that it continued to stand firm on their demand.
