Alert excise personnel manning Kohima bypass check gate on Friday seized contraband ganja worth lakhs of rupees from a ‘Tata Mobile’ and arrested two persons in this connection during wee hours.
The detection and seizure was made at around 1am when the Tata Mobile (NL-07A 3656) refused to stop in-spite of being signaled and sped away towards Dimapur.
Excise personnel on duty, immediately gave a chase and caught up with the loaded Tata Mobile at the landslide area at Old KMC dumping site.
On frisking, the Tata Mobile was found loaded with neatly packed contraband ganja covered with a black plastic. The two occupants were later identified as one Mesülo Chakhesang, presently residing in Full Nagarjan Dimapur and the driver Sani Mao, hailing from Rabunamei village under Senapati district of Manipur.
The consignments were neatly jack-packed in 105 different packages and well sealed with black plastics. A case has been registered and further investigation was on till the time of filing this report.
