Joint Action Committee (JAC) on May 27 incident, comprising of representatives of various Naga women tribal organizations, has revealed that it received an official communication from the chief principal secretary of the NSCN/GPRN (I-M) disclosing that the “military tribunal court order” on July1, 2011 declared one of the accused in NSCN (I-M) custody ‘lance corporal’ Ngalengshang Chahongnao guilty on several counts in the assassination attempt on Imtila on May 27.
In a press statement, JAC said its meeting held on July 30, while acknowledging the receipt of the above letter dispatched on the morning of July 30; sought clarification on how it the order was passed on July 1,2011.
JAC pointed out that on July 22, 2011 when its delegation met with the collective leadership of the NSCN/GPRN (I-M) at New Delhi, they were informed that the co-accused ‘lance corporal’ Ngalengshang Chahnongnao “was innocent” and were informed of a fresh inquiry on the matter. JAC said while taking cognizance of the reason cited by NSCN/GPRN for not being able to arrest the prime accused, it resolved to impress upon authority to arrest the culprit at the earliest.
Meanwhile, JAC also forwarded the court order dated July 1; it received on July 30 from the chief principal secretary NSCN/GPRN.
The order signed by ‘Lt. Gen.’ Ng. Markson-VC, Longvibu, Naga Army, declared prime accused ‘private’ Worshim “still at large” and reiterated its earlier directive to the “lower court to book the culprit at the earliest”.
The order found Nganlengshang an accomplice in the assassination attempt, guilty of the following crimes (1) misuse of power: by irresponsibly following the “dirty plan of extortion hatched by a private soldier, thereby rendering himself unfit for a junior NCO”; (2) misuse of service weapon: by carrying along the service weapon outside the camp, without the knowledge of the higher authority to “serve his vested interest”;(3)willful abetment to crime: by deliberately taking part in the “whole process of executing the crime without hesitation”.
In the light of the above, the court ordered that AX-40469 ‘L/corporal’Ngalengshang WTR of the GHQ be stripped off of military titles and decorations and immediately suspended form service indefinitely. The court also sentenced Ngalenghshang to “three years of rigorous imprisonment.”
