Dimapur Press Club (DPC) has condemned the July 30 incident where two members of the Dimapur press fraternity was robbed off by unidentified miscreants. In a statement, DPC said regardless of individuals/groups targeting members of the press, the press fraternity continues to serve the people, without any security being provided.
July 30 incident was not an isolated incident where members of the media were targeted, DPC added.
Condemning the perpetrators of the crime, who posed themselves as members of a certain “faction of Naga political groups” DPC said such incidents of uncivilized nature should be condemned by all right thinking citizens.
It also appealed the law enforcing agencies to step up their vigil, especially at night when such miscreants move around freely and target people.
DPC urged the law enforcing agencies to take the present case with all seriousness and bring to book the culprits involved in the robbery.
Further, DPC in an appeal requested the state government to ensure proper security to the media persons of state. It maybe mentioned that on July 30, two journalists of Nagaland Post were robbed off their belongings at gun point while returning home after work.
Despite identifying themselves as journalists, the miscreants on the pretext of frisking also alleged which group they belonged to. They were also threatened to be taken to their camp when the two asked them to return their belongings.
Adds NPN: Meanwhile, West P.S.registered the FIR on the complaint lodged by the two journalists only on Monday, August 1.So far no breakthrough was made at the time of filing this report.
