‘Tsungremmong’ celebrated in Longsa

Tsungremmong festival, one of the most important festivals of the Ao Naga tribe was celebrated in a grand manner at Longsa village here today graced by important public leaders and government officials.
Speaking on the occasion, J. Lhungdim, IDAS, Advisor Planning North Eastern Council, on his maiden visit to Mokokchung district, said God has blessed the Ao community as a whole because of the dedication and reverence for God.
The chief guest, T.R Zeliang, minister, planning, evaluation, vety & A.H, Nagaland, while delivering his speech said Longsa was an important village as it was positioned in a strategically important place and an epicenter of three different Naga tribes of Ao, Sumi and Sangtams.
Zeliang said he was encouraged to see other various Naga tribes like Sumis and Sangtams celebrating in the Tsungremmong festival stating it was a sign of peaceful co-existence among the people.
He also stressed that leaving aside the coming of Christianity and education, the Aos were the first amongst the Nagas to impart the honour and importance of work culture and likewise encouraged the gathering to be an example for other tribes.  He also promised to start a Community Training Centre(CTC) in Longsa and assured he would donate between 50 Lacs to 1 crore for the project in the future.
The other highlights of the festivals were presentation of dances and songs from various villages like Sangtam Cultural Troupe from Alisupo village from Tuensang, Lion club and the Watsurogo Longsa (women Hoho).
The festival was attended by more than 1000 people who flocked from various places and neighbouring  Ao villages, and other districts like Zunhebuto and Tuensang.
