Doctors, officers and staffs of health and family welfare (H&FW) department have threatened to close down all health establishments under the department for an indefinite period if authorities failed to bring to book those culprits responsible for alleged “attempted murder” on DDO of H&FW April 8 within 15 days.
On April 8 last, two armed miscreants reportedly intruded into the directorate of H&FW department, Kohima and attempted to extort money from DDO at gunpoint.
Nagaland in-service Doctor’s Association (NIDA) and DH&FW ministerial staff association asserted that DDO would have been murdered if it was not for other staffs’ intervention. NIDA president Dr.H.Hotokhu Chishi, general secretary Dr.I. Temsü Longchar and DH&FW ministerial staff association president Thinuohelie Sachu and secretary K.Sephe said they were pained to see anti-socials, who were allowed to freely extort from various departments under the guise of “national workers”, have no hesitation to pull trigger at any individual who demand rational discussion.
“It is also painful to see that in spite of various forms of democratic protest, these anti-social extortion activities have not declined,” they said, and pointed out that sanity has disappeared and general public was put on ransom by few under the “direct supervision and protection of the leaders of various groups of national workers.”
According to signatories, the principal director following the incident had lodged FIR with north police station “with great expectation that these anti-socials would be arrested at the earliest” however those responsible perpetrators were still at large. They also asserted that there has been a continuous disturbance by those elements in the day to day functions of the department even after April 8 incident, not only in the directorate but in all health establishments in Nagaland.
“In spite of these happenings, leaders of national workers have failed to take note of the mess emulsified by their cadres and have failed to rein on those happy extortion spree individuals,” signatories said and remarked that there was a limit in everything and they now felt they have had enough.
Therefore, they said if authority failed to arrest the culprit and authorities in various “national workers groups” failed to rein on their cadres and put restrictions on extortion spree, the doctors and staffs of H&FW “may consider closing down of all health establishment” under the department indefinitely.
