Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) has reportedly decided to boycott the “Metemniu cum cultural show” to be held at Shamator town from August 6 to 7. According to reports, around 300-400 youth have gathered at Anatonger Village under Kiphire district to boycott the festival.
Speaking to this correspondent, Mark Murekiu, joint Secretary Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) said Shamator belongs to Tikhir’s and without the consensus from Tikhirs they (Yimchungers) were going to organize ‘Metemniu cum cultural show’ at Shamator Village which he said was against their rights. Mark also reminded that no social gatherings can be held at Shamator as the state government had declared Shamator Town, a disputed area.
It was also informed that road blockade shall be in three locations viz, Anatonger Village, Waphure village and Sikiur Village (road proceeding to Shamator town).
Meanwhile, when contacted, president Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) said they were going to celebrate the festival in their jurisdiction where Yimchungers exist. He said he had no knowledge of the boycott by the Tikhirs. He said, as “a Naga when there is a festival, there will also be a cultural dance, so no harm on it.”
