MMC to increase awareness on AIDS

The Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) on Friday launched the third phase of Multi Media Campaign (MMC) – a Red Ribbon Super Star Campaign 2011-12. Commencing from August 18 till January 2012, the Multi Media Campaign will comprise of awareness campaigns through interpersonal communications, sports, music and through festivals.

While launching the campaign, Menukhol John, commissioner and secretary, Health and Family Welfare and chairman of NSACS, said that NSACS had successfully conducted MMC for the last two years and was optimistic of receiving the same response in the third phase.
Under the component of awareness through music, NSACS will start the Red Ribbon Superstar Campaign called NSACS’ RockAware (earlier called Live Drive/Rock Reach) covering all districts of the state under the key message ‘AIDS is our problem. We care”. The music campaign will kick start from Kohima on September 10 and culminate with the state level grand finale at Dimapur on October 15. Gugs Chishi, project director of Music Task Force informed that prize money for winners have been enhanced to `20, 000 for district level winners and `2.25 lakhs for grand finale winners. Prizes in the form of music systems will be given to winners in individual category to be sponsored by Audio Garage, Unitex Inc, Dream Café and Wishing Well Foundation, Crescendo and Neo Vision.

As part of awareness through sports, NSACS will partner with Classic Club during the Classic Cup football tournament which will start on August 18. It will also collaborate with Angami Students’ Union for the 12th Martyrs’ Cup football tournament, Friends Club Mon for Noke football Trophy in October, Royal Club for Royal Gold Cup in November and Flamingo Sporting Club Dimapur for T20 Cricket Tournament to be held in January 2012.
NSACS will also collaborate with women organization of Pochury, Phom, Chang and Sangtam communities to conduct awareness through interpersonal communication. IPC campaign will start from August 22 and will continue till September. The Multi Media Campaign will also be part of Hornbill festival to disseminate message of HIV and AIDS as part of awareness through festival. Mobilization of Red Ribbon Clubs in all districts, printing of Christmas cards with HIV and AIDS messages will some of its events under this component.

The Campaign is capitalized on the popularity of local entertainment avenues targeting the youth between the ages of 18-30 years with the theme “awareness, compassion, education and support for the issue of HIV and AIDS in the state.” Main objective of the campaign is to deliver greater visibility for issue of HIV and AIDS, encourage safe and responsible behavior among the youth, reduce the level of stigma and discrimination, promote HIV and AIDS related services and increase general awareness about HIV and AIDS.
