Additional chief secretary and development commissioner, Alemtemshi Jamir IAS, on Saturday inaugurated the community hall and epitaph monolith of formation of Meyilong village. While delivering his speech, Jamir lamented on the present crisis amongst the Nagas especially demand for Frontier Nagaland. He said Nagas cannot survive if they remained divided and urged the Eastern brothers and sisters to think seriously about the issue before taking the next step.
He also said that in reality, there was disparity of development and progress between the various districts but defended saying it was the Britishers who established their headquarters and developed only some pockets of Nagaland during their stay in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamir said he was delighted to witness the strong bond and unity amongst Meyilong village and its neighbouring villages including Sangtam villages, bearing in mind that the villages was situated at border between Ao and Sangtam villages.
He also encouraged the villagers to live in peace and harmony saying there will be no peace and development without it. Stating the government has given ample development, Alemtemshi said it was now up to the people to utilize and modernize their respective areas.
He shared the dreams of the government that within five years, the present NH-155 passing through the area could become a double lane and with central government emphasizing on ‘Look East Policy’, NH 155 could even become an international highway as it is the only road which leads to Myanmar border.
Exhortation was given Yashikaba Jamir, Chairman, Longsa Village council and cultural dance by New Chungliyimti Village and Women VDB Meyilong.
The occasion was attended by neighbouring villages of Meyilong villages including Sangtam villages.
