A training programme on basics laboratory diagnostic techniques with special reference to Mithun diseases was held from August 9 -18 at NRC on Mithun at Jharnapani campus.
The programme was attended by veterinary professional from Disease Investigation Unit, Dimapur, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Nagaland. The participants were Dr. Atem, deputy director, Dr Amenla Imchen, Dr. Asenmo Limyn, Dr. R. Temjen Ao, Dr. E. Kepfoh and Dr. Salang Temjen from Disease Investigation Unit.
During the programme, various basics and advance techniques for disease diagnosis were discussed and demonstrated and the participants involved themselves by performing techniques and methods in laboratory condition.
They were also imparted training on routine microbiological, pathological and parasitological techniques for isolation, identification and characterization of various pathogens. Further, the scientists at institute also demonstrated use of high precision techniques like atomic absorption spectrophotometery, polymerase chain reaction and ELISA which can be utilized for carrying out sensitive, accurate and rapid method of diagnosis.
Meanwhile, the participants expressed gratitude to the director and scientists of the institute for their effort towards making the programme effective and informative one and Dr. Atem, deputy director assured that their centre would be working in collaboration with NRC on Mithun for carrying out diseases monitoring and surveillance of the livestock diseases in general and Mithun in particular in the state.
