Educated Unemployed Union Nagaland (EUUN) has voiced its opinion regarding special recruitment of 10 EACs in the NCS for backward, un-represented tribes of Nagaland.
The union stated that according to the statement issued by chief secretary Lalthara, during 15 years period from 1990- 2004, no candidate from the Rengma tribe was selected by NPSC for NCS and NPS.
Quoting Lalthara, union president Achilo Thong said representation from Rengma tribe was particularly low even today as only four NCS officers were currently in service which was only 1.4% of NCS whereas Rengma population was 2.4%.
Also taking note of the statement made by Lalthara, where he said that inclusion of Rengma tribe was “one time compensatory measure”, EUUN said from this “compensatory measure, the government knows that it has discriminated the Rengmas by denying backward tribes reserved quota.”
The union queried as to why the government was not including Rengmas in the backward reservation quota when Rengmas were un-represented not only in NCS and NPS but have been un-represented in the entire government/public sector for more than 15 years.
The union also alleged that proposal for inclusion of Rengma tribe under the backward tribes reserved quota has been delayed by the government for a number of years.
With the publication of least represented tribes in the government sector supported by statistics and figures, EUUN said government must also inform the public about the most represented tribes with statistics and figures for the last 15 years for transparency and awareness in public employment.
EUUN urged the government to make a total review of backward tribes’ quota reservation and to apply and include or exclude tribe under the provision as per the criteria.
While appealing to stop misuse of backward quota, the union also urged the department to compensate the reserved quota which was misused. EUUN said it would not remain a silent spectator if justice was not done to the deserving people.
