In a scene reminiscent of a star-studded Hollywood event, a flood of cameras crowded around Angelina Jolie as the superstar visited the president of Croatia.
The 36-year-old actress received a friendly reception when she walked up the stairs to the presidential residence Sunday in Brijuni Island, and she was personally greeted by the country’s smiling president President Ivo Josipovic.
Wearing a simple, yet elegant black dress with her haired pulled back, Angelina shook hands with the country’s silver-haired leader, who wore a simple white shirt.
The Oscar-winning star sat down with Josipovic to discuss the land mine problems remaining in his country from the 1991-95 war after Croatia declared independence from socialist Yugoslavia and fighting broke out with the Yugoslav National Army.
Afterwards Angelina posed for pictures with Josipovic and his wife Tanja. While the American star is a UN Goodwill Ambassador, she was actually invited to the country by Croatian actor Rade Serbedzija, who has starred in such hit films as Mission: Impossible II and Batman Begins.
During her visit, the star toured Brijuni with President Josipovic and Serbedzija, she saw a local theater production and she spoke with a crowd of reporters and photographers.
Hours later Angelina and her 10-year-old son Maddox were spotted getting ready to leave Brijuni, which is located on a group of 14 small islands in the Croatian part of the northern Adriatic Sea.
Before jetting to Croatia, the actress and partner Brad Pitt treated their six children to dinner at Balgarth Bar and Restaurant on Thursday in Ayrshire, Scotland.
The family took up residence at the historic 16th century Carnell Estate in Ayrshire, Scotland while Brad Pitt is working on his action film World War Z in Glasgow.
