Nagaland Pulp and Paper Company Limited (NPPCL) on Monday received the first truckload of bamboos after a gap of about 20 years. A press release received through email stated the first truckload of bamboos marked the culmination of a “long deadlock”.
Overwhelmed with the arrival, the management has decided to procure chips locally and informed farmers who wish to supply small quantity of chips (minimum 500 kg) that they should be able to value add their products and sell chips.
According to the press release, the company in future also intends to market the paper of M/s Hindustan Paper, their holding company and become stockiest/distributors in the north east. The company had earlier announced a scheme for supplying bamboo plantlets free of cost to the farmers of Nagaland and is already on the verge of dealing with coal and selling it at a premium to interested agencies outside Nagaland.
