Rural development (RD) department of Nagaland on Thursday launched a separate public domain portal to provide necessary information on implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MG-NREGS) in the state.
The website http://nregsnagaland.org which is also linked to the website of the union RD ministry http://rural.nic.in would provide detail ed information on the implementation of NREGA scheme in the state.
While presenting the newly launched website, RD Director Metsubo Jamir said the new beta system which the department had procured recently would be introduced in all blocks and after training; the existing about 130 honorarium appointed computer assistants will feed the data monthly from the block level.
Launching the website soon after inaugurating the state MGNREGA MIS computer training centre and the two days training programme, S. Pangnyu Phom expressed happiness for launching of the website and also for organizing the training on NREGA-soft (Beta version) MIS Data entry for computer assistants. He also expressed confidence that with the availed facilities, the officers and staff of the department will work harder and bring laurel to the state.
Reminding on the implementation of flagships programme by the department, Pangnyu said the officers should be first trained in order to train others. He expressed hope that the launching of the training programme would help the department and people of the state.
Stressing the importance of maintaining proper record and datas and feeding the government, he reminded that giving proper MIS data on time would help the state in getting funds on time.
He also cautioned the department officials and staff that they would be held responsible if they fail to give MIS data on time and asked the department officials to be in their respective place of posting for the welfare of people.
Earlier, commissioner and secretary rural development, V Sakhrie in his short speech termed the day as an important event in the history of the department as it goes hi-tech. He said “This may be one of the 1st departments in the state to be equipped with such hi-fi technology”.
He also said the website was not only for MGNREGA but for all the flagships programme the department was implementing. This will help effective implementation of the various programmes, he said and reminded that unless the department officers and staff were trained, they will not be able to compete with the rest of the country.
On the NREGS website, he asserted it as a good way in providing transparency and accountability and if properly utilized, it would serve the purpose of RTI, he added.
He said the launching of the website was just the beginning and the department officials and staff have to update themselves to obtain maximum benefit.
Earlier briefing on the status of MGNREGA-MIS & introduction to the training, G. Thong, state MIS nodal officer, said MGNREGA the management information system (MIS) was a hi-tech system with high speed internet connectivity and the department was not lagging behind others in digitization. The department had so far digitized all information of 3, 35,000 job card holders, he added.
The department had started the MIS–reporting/data entry since 2009-10 and was one of the performing state but the department faced problem in 2010-11 due to software improvement to beta version by the union RD ministry for which it could not continue with the MIS-reporting till date, he said.
He however expressed hope that with procurement of the new software and the two-day training for computer assistants on the new version, the department would be able to restart MIS-reporting/data entry within the next few weeks.
