In a bizarre incident, a 17-year old student of New Horizon School, Nagarjan Dimapur reportedly died in the wee hours Saturday, after two persons performed witchcraft on her. According to village council chairman and general secretary of Imkonglenden colony, the victim identified as, Ainla of Class X, daughter of Toshitsüngba of Changki village and resident of Imkonglenden colony Dimapur died at around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
It was alleged that Ayas Ali first performed witchcraft on the victim. Later, the family after knowing that the victim was suffering from some unknown ailment, went to Md. Sodrol Islam (Imam) for treatment. However it was learnt that Md. Sodrol Islam had used ‘tabiz’ and after which the girl died. Chairman of the colony disclosed that at the meeting of colony residents at the village panchayat hall, two suspects identified as Ayas Ali (Imam) and Md. Sodrol Islam (Imam) confessed to using sorcery on the victim.
The duo while making the confession before the public of Imkonglenden, also expressed shame besides bringing disrepute and shame to the Muslim Community at large. The duo were then asked to immediately leave the colony he said. In view of the crime being of a heinous nature, the public also resolved to ask all Bangladeshi migrants to vacate the colony within seven days starting from August 28, 2011. The colony residents further warn public in general not to entertain the culprits.
