The three-day silver jubilee celebration of Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) concluded on Sunday with the selection of new team of successors, led by Lomei. Konyak as president, Moikap, general secretary, Phangnon. Konyak and Pejem. Konyak as vice presidents and C. Angip. Konyak as joint secretary. The new team as the apex Konyak women organisation (KNSK) would lead more than 1.5 lakh female populace for three years.
Interacting with the media persons, Lomei. Konyak said the focus of the new team would be women empowerment and education of women, as women empowerment in Mon district was yet to be materialized. Although female educational rate of the Konyak have come up, there was a gap to be at par with the male counterpart. She also said the new team would follow up the activities of the former, such as eradication of anti-social elements like drugs, alcohol, opium, discrimination of women etc. On 33% reservation, she said KNSK would fully support the Naga Mothers’ Association on implementation of the reservation.
When asked on discrimination on women and domestic violence, Phangnon, vice president stated that ‘domestic violence and discriminations were prevailing in society but women folk were unaware of such activities due to lack of education and awareness’ adding such anti social activities can be controlled by creating awareness programme and through education.
Lomei asserted that ‘culturally, Konyak women were under privileged but in this modern era and said Konyak male should acknowledge the presence of women, as they alone cannot do every thing.
Earlier, the former president, Yumah Konyak thanked her team and all the members for rendering the support through out her tenure as the president.
She also thanked the founding members for their continued support and advice, without which the team wouldn’t have completed the term successfully. Meanwhile, the newly selected president, Lomei Konyak thanked the nominating committee for selecting and sought the cooperation and support of all its federating units, advisors and founding members.<
