A hitherto unknown group, Yimchunger Liberation Front (YLF), numbering around 20-30, allegedly kidnapped four Tikhirs Monday at around 11.30 a.m. from High Bridge between Sikur and Lasukiur.
Sources claimed that the four were kidnapped while traveling in a Gypsy (NL-03-1456) from Waphur to Kiusum to attend Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) meeting at Kiusum scheduled to be held August 30.
The four were identified as Kiusum village council chairman W.K Merenba, GB Shamator village L. Mongtsiu, P. Yamliu of Shamator village and driver Venthong.
While Kiusum village council chairman and driver were released at around 4.30 p.m. two others were still held hostage.
Tikhir students’ union (TSU) Monday lodged an FIR with Kiphire police station. Those released told police they were blindfolded and assaulted.
Yimchunger Tribal council president denied existence of YLF.
