Tupac’s mother has been forced to deny that she smoked the remains of her murdered son in a macabre memorial along with members of the rap star’s former group.
Members of the The Outlawz – Tupac’s former rap group – released a video earlier this week in which they claim they mixed their dead friend’s ashes with the drug marijuana and smoked it at a family memorial event.
The rappers claim Tupac – real name Tupac Shakur’s mother Afeni was present at the party, which was held on a beach after Tupac’s funeral.
But a spokesperson for his mother, Afeni, and the Shakur family has told U.S. website TMZ that no one from their camp signed off on the odd ritual.
The family spokesperson said anyone who managed to smoke the ashes ‘would have had to sneak the remains past the family member in charge of keeping an eye on the ashes at the Tupac’s comrades The Outlawz are most famous for joining him on the Biggie Smalls diss track Hit ‘em Up, released in 1996 at the height of the East Coast VS West Coast rap war.
In the video, which was broadcast on TMZ Tuesday, one of the members tells the cameraman: ‘Yeah it’s definitely true. We had a little memorial for him, with his mom and family.
‘And we hit the beach and did a lot of s*** he liked at the beach. You know some weed [marijuana], some chicken wings, he loved orange soda – we were just giving him our own farewell. That night, I forgot which one of us came up with it…’
A second member then jumps in to says it was his idea and quotes Tupac’s song Black Jesus where he says “Last wishes n******, smoke my ashes.’
Meanwhile a third member, Hussein, says he wasn’t there when this all apparently happened. Finally, the first Outlawz member tells the camera: ‘We twist up some of that great-granddaddy California kush and mixed the big homie with it … so you know, he [Tupac] flowing through our system.’
The Shakur family rep told TMZ no one in the family would ever approve of the act, but they currently don’t plan on pursuing any action against The Outlawz.
Tupac was murdered in September 1996 after attending the Mike Tyson VS Bruce Seldon boxing match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Though several theories about the rapper’s death have been touted around, no one has ever been charged with the shooting.
