The state BJP has accused the state government of taking hasty decision in the creation of an autonomous council in Eastern Nagaland. The state BJP in a press release issued by its vice-president K. Medom Angami stated that going by the report carried in the local dailies, the chief minister Neiphiu Rio immediately declared the cabinet’s collective decision and had recommended the matter to the centre after the team from Eastern Nagaland met him (Rio) on July 21.
Believing there might have been an “internal arrangement” for immediate recommendation for creation of an autonomous council as a “good gesture” to the “eastern people”, the state BJP however mentioned that the state cabinet’s hasty decision has made the issue more complicated and alleged the stand off (DAN -2 Vs. ENPO body) was a creation of the NPF led government.
While accusing the “DAN – 2 government” of shying away from its venture and trying to escape from its responsibilities, the party said the DAN government has not only put the “burning issue” on trial by a “sub-standard appeasement policy to divert public attention”, but also “underestimated” the MLAs representing the four districts in the opposition.
State BJP further asked the cabinet ministers from the eastern region to “clear their stand” as they had failed to give any “substantial statement” if there was no “hidden agreement with the government”. State BJP while extending its support to the “common people’s interest” also urged the NPF party to solve the problem affecting the “state’s congenial atmosphere”.
