NSCN (I-M) termed Monday’s shoot out at Kohima, between unidentified armed persons and Assam Rifles, as not only “regrettable” but “condemnatory in any sense of the term.” MIP in a release said such kind of “bloody incident” was not expected to occur when ceasefire was in place, adding it should not have taken place in public place where innocent by-standers fall easy targets.
The MIP statement further asserted that “such senseless armed persons”, who provoked counter-firing by the AR personnel resulting in the death of one person and injuring innocent college student and two AR personnel should be condemned by all, in view the “significance of the existing ceasefire and the progress seen in the reconciliation process among different warring groups and the Indo-Naga political talks as well.”
NSCN (I-M) advocated that prevailing peace must be valued and maintained at any cost “given the fact that this is brought about by the sincere and tired less efforts of the Nagas under the banner of FNR and the honour being given to the ceasefire for nearly 15 years.”
It stated that whoever was “conspiring to dampen this progressive atmosphere”was against Naga political solution, adding that those responsible were no better than“anti-Naga social element who must face the wrath of the people.”
NH condemn: Strongly condemning the Kohima shootout on Monday, Naga Hoho (NH) said it was perturbed by the unfortunate firing incident where a precious life was lost while another three were injured. NH publicity & information secretary, C. Daipao’s statement said Monday’s incident was a desperate act of some vested interest person to derail the hard earned ongoing peaceful environment, political dialogue and the process of Naga reconciliation process.
NH further appealed to all right thinking, peace loving Nagas to stand up and condemn such act and to make sure that such unwanted act is not repeated in the near future.
Meanwhile, there was no breakthrough in nabbing those involved in the shootout Monday near Old Modern College at Upper AG Colony. Home Minister Imkong L Imchen while talking to this correspondent termed the incident as “very very unfortunate.
He said Nagas were totally against the act as they want the cease fire and peace process to achieve the objective. He said the AR retaliated in self defence when fired upon. Imchen, quoting police inputs disclosed that the deceased former pastor had joined the NSCN (I-M) but later defected to NSCN (K) but the latest position was yet to be ascertained.
He further appealed to all Naga underground groups to exercise maximum restrain and rein in their cadres.
