A two-day Nagaland Philatelic Exhibition 2011 “Nagapex-2011” began on September 26 at Baptist High Chapel hall Kohima with Nini Meru Chairman NBSE as chief guest.
The resource persons of the exhibition was Dr. Leban Serto (Philatelist) from Shillong and Dr. P. Rajamani Singh (Philatelist) from Imphal.
Welcome address was delivered by K. Kevichusa, Director of postal services Nagaland.
Kevichusa said the exhibition will encourage those who love collecting stamps and become more interested in the hobby.
Encouraging whose hobby is Philately, he said “This hobby will be absorbing, educating and perhaps profitable also”.
He also said the exhibition has two categories; students and invitees or professional level while addressing the gathering.
“The hobby of collecting stamp is interesting as it tells about history, geography, culture and places,” Nini Meru said while addressing the inaugural function.
She said India was one of the first countries in world which started the postal service way back 1296.
She congratulated the postal department for organizing the programme so that it encourages and provides opportunity to the interested people in the state.
Dr. P. Rajamani Singh, the resource person, while interacting with the media, appreciated the efforts put in by the collectors, though some were mixed up, as it was their first time taking part in a Philatelic exhibition.
“They should work hard and try to be in national level in future”, he added.
Dr. Leban Serto said “Young Naga children should focus on global prospective” while taking this profession or as hobby.
Stressing the lager view of this profession, he said Nagas have better opportunity and are capable of going beyond India with their fluency in English.
It may be mentioned that stamp collection is the world’s oldest and the most popular hobby and perhaps the only hobbies which binds Philatelites across the various countries bridging the gulf in the peoples across the world.
It is the easiest and least expensive means of educating children and adults on the history of the country, its geography, flora & fauna etc.
There will be stamp design competition for students and the result will be declared on September 27 during the closing function.
