Minister for agriculture Dr. Chumben Murry and parliamentary secretary for geology and mining, irrigation and flood control, and border affairs, Y. Patton held a consultative meet with Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) leaders and others here at DC conference hall, Wokha even as protests by four federating units of NSF against the state government’s special recruitment drive for ten EAC posts for less represented tribes entered the second day Tuesday.
Informed sources said the consultative meet, however, was of an interactive and informal view-sharing nature without the burden of arriving at conclusions or clear cut decisions.
Sources also said Dr. Murry presented a slide show detailing the various break-ups of tribal representations (including that of EACs) in the state government in proportion to their populations. Dr. Murry also sought to justify, with the help of the same facts and figures, the government’s policy on the special recruitment drive for ten EAC posts for the less represented tribes of Nagaland.
Parliamentary secretary Y. Patton appreciated both the students and the district administration for practicing restraint and for the protest turning out to be a peaceful one.
KSU president Subenthung Kithan presented the students’ stand on the state government’s special drive for ten EAC posts for the less represented tribes of Nagaland.
Others who also shared their views on the issue included Kyong Hoho chairman Yansathung Jami and Kyong Eloe (Women) Hoho chairperson.
DC Wokha Rovilatuo Mor chaired the meet where SP Wokha Sejong Sangtam was also present.
Earlier, like on Monday, thousands of KSU volunteers congregated inside the DC’s office complex and raised slogans shouting: “We Want Justice’, ‘We Oppose Special Recruitment Drive’, ‘Deliver Justice’, ‘Maintain Equality’ and ‘Total Review First.’ This went on till around noon when the two legislators from Wokha arrived at the venue of the consultative meet.
KSU leaders informed that the next step of the four federating units of NSF (Angami Students’ Union, Ao Students’ Conference, All Sumi Students’ Union and the Kyong Students’ Union) would involve boycotting of the examination for the ten EAC posts.
