Police are on the hunt to crack down a gang of counterfeiters after the arrest of a woman and seizure of forged currency amounting to `5000. The forged currency notes of Rs. 1000 denomination was seized from the possession of a 29-year-old housewife, “Dziesunuo” at Dimapur on Saturday, said police.
On being interrogated, the woman disclosed to police that a gang was involved in circulating the counterfeit money. The woman was arrested by a joint team of 15 Mahila IR ‘C’ coy and West Police personnel near DC court junction.
She had gone to purchase some items from a shop when an alerted shopkeeper on discovering the fake currency notes reported the matter to police, sources said. It was also revealed that counterfeit money has been in circulation in Dimapur by exchanging `10,000 fake currency notes for `5000 (genuine notes).
