Measles catch up campaign

Ongoing Measles catch –up campaign conducted by the Department of Health and Family Welfare under Universal Immunization Programme has so far covered 34302 children out of the total 75954 targeted children in the Dimapur district for the first three days.

KIPHIRE: Kiphire with the rest of the district in Nagaland started the measles catch up-2 Immunization campaign on October 10. Kiphire is divided into three blocks i.e. Kiphire- Amahator Block, Seyochung- Sitimi Block and Pungro Block. Block-wise coverage and reporting is being done under the leadership of different medical officers.

Kiphire District has 111 schools with the mentioned target population and out of which 4623 children have received the vaccination on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day of the campaign which will continue for the whole week. Dr. Kibang, District immunization Officer Kiphire urged parents to get their children immunized at the earliest so as to save their children from this dreaded disease. 

MON: First phase of the measles catch up campaign for Mon district started on October 11 by administering of vaccines to school children between the age of 9 months and 10 years at Mon and Tizit blocks. Besides schools, vaccination of children would be done in Churches, community hall and health units and other designated health units.

Phomching, Aboi/Chen blocks: DC Mon, Angau I Thou, visited district hospital Mon at the ongoing measles vaccination site. District Immunization Officer, Mon Dr. S Mukherjee stated that the measles vaccination coverage in the district so far was satisfactory mainly due to the extensive sensitization and social mobilization carried out at the block level by the MSF in addition to the sensitization carried out by the Department at district and block level. The second phase of measles catch-up campaign was flagged off at Phomching and Chen/Aboi Block respectively.

Meanwhile, emergency executive meeting of Phokhungri area college students’ union and senior students has been  convened on October 22,  10:30 am at the residence of Jonathan Thviiviiry joint secy. PACSU at Bayavu Hill Kohima.

Kohima: Measles catch-up campaign’s fixed outreach sessions has entered its second day in Kohima district which commenced on October 17 and would continue till October 31. During this fixed outreach sessions, the non-school going and left out children would be vaccinated at the measles vaccine booth.

In this regard, Kohima district immunization officer, Dr. Avile Zao (DIO) has requested all the parents, community leaders and others to fully mobilize the community to avail the measles vaccine during this outreach session which would be covering the rural and urban areas.
Meanwhile, measles catch-up campaign for the schools under Kohima district has been completed successfully.
