A 21-member team comprising of Subash Chandra Bose’s family led by Netaji’s niece Shiela and nephew Subroto Chandra Bose and Nagaland chapter of the NSB-INA visited Chesezu village, in Phek district on Sunday.  The team arrived Dimapur on Saturday and flew by chopper to Chesezu village Sunday morning.

Talking to Nagaland Post, 86-year old Shiela Sengupta, niece of Subash Chandra Bose said that when the chopper touched down at Chesezu, she was overwhelmed with the sight of the local people gathered to receive Netaji’s family.

With this visit, Shiela said her dream of visiting Nagaland has finally come true. She however lamented that the government at the centre was not paying due attention to Nagaland in spite of the contribution made by the people of the state to Netaji and his army, which she termed it as, “simple devotion to make India free”.

She further appreciated government of Nagaland officials, security, district administration and public for their support during the visit. The team visited Netaji’s Peak, the peak from where he used to observe the surrounding places.

The Indian National Army (INA) had set up their last camp at Chesezu in 1944 to monitor the Battle of Kohima. This was the last point where Netaji Subash Chandra Bose was seen on Indian soil. It is said he chose this village for its strategic location.

Meanwhile, ‘Azad Hind Haqoomat Day’ function, organized by the Netaji Subash Chandra Bose INA Trust was held at ITA-Centre for Performing Arts at Machkhowa in Guwahati on October 21. ‘

From Nagaland 22 delegates attended the function led by Er. Vekho Swuro, legal advisor INA Trust Nagaland Chapter, P.T. Aienla Lemtor, and Manoj Battacharya– president and general secretary INA Trust Nagaland Chapter.

Puracho and Vezo Swuro a close associate of Netaji during the World War- II, director Yashimenla Lemtor and producer Er. Vekho Swuro of the documentary film Netaji with the Nagas were awarded with mementos of Netaji.
