The 19th State Level National Children’s Science Congress 2011 organized by NIHESW and district organizing committee NCSC, Zunheboto was held at Town hall on October 21 with secretary, department of science and technology, GoI, C. K. Nihekhu Sumi gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, C. K. Nihekhu said that science and technology department is a nodal department in the state, to promote science and technology in the state including research and development. He said that this year’s theme ‘prosperity and for posterity’ was very appropriate at this juncture.
The theme for the children science congress was ‘land resources: Use for prosperity and for posterity.’ In this regard, he said as a layman one should apply scientific method for utilization of land resources for wealth and prosperity and ensure sustainability in utilizing the rich land resources that our creator had given us.
The chief guest also informed those wanting to take up scientific research as a career that there is a National programme launched by the ministry of science and technology, government of India called INSPIRE and this programme starts for students from the age of 10 to scientist up to the age of 35 incorporated with handsome scholarships.
Other highlights of the programme included mock drill presentation by Kupuli T. Yeptho, child scientist, Cornerstone School followed by Sumi traditional ethnic wear. Around 30 to 35 schools from the entire district attended the programme.
