Total sanitation campaign rally

Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) rally was held on November 8 from Government High School Dhansiripar Complex till Dhansiripar Pump House participated by hundreds of school students from Dhansiripar area.

The rally on the theme ‘Sanitation is the foundation for health, dignity and development, was organized by PHED (Rural)Division Dimapur and sponsored by Water and Sanitation Support Organization (WSSO) followed by a function at the culmination venue.

Talking about the objective of the TSC rally, Er. P. Khetoi Sema, Executive Engineer, PHED (Rural) said that sanitary habits, clean surroundings needed to be maintained to ensure a healthy life. He also dwelt on the total eradication of open defecation as about 80% of diseases are water and sanitation related.

The TSC concept and a brief overview on the construction of low cost latrines was given by Er. Mersen Walling, Project Engineer, WSSO (PHED) who dwelt on the importance of sanitary latrines based on the principle of no touch, no see and no smell and how integral it is for good health.

Head GB, Dhansiripar, Lala Ram in his speech thanked the PHED department and its officials for restoring the water supply and opined that with safe drinking water supply, incidence of diseases has become low. Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, Imojungla Longkumer gave a speech on the components of sanitation.

The programme was attended by PHED officials manning Dhansiripar, 35 villages WATSAN chairman, Village Council, VDB Secretary, ASHA, Anganwadi workers, women and youth leaders besides school children from four schools namely Government High School and BHM(Dhansiripar), Shalom and Daffodil High School (Doyapur) respectively.

Chemically treated dustbins were also distributed on the occasion. Students were instructed to practically throw the sweet wrappers and plastic bottles into the bins.
