2 extortionists held in Dimapur

Dimapur police Saturday arrested two NSCN (K) cadres from Church road while they were attempting to collect “extortion money” from shops.  According to a press release by Additional SP Dimapur, one .32 pistol with two live ammunitions in magazine and a booklet of tax receipts of GPRN/NSCN were recovered from their possession along with one mobile handset and cash amounting to Rs.570.

The accused have been identified as ‘ss lieut’ of NSCN (K), Bokato Ayemi (28) s/o James Ayemi, Ahoto village, Niuland and Joseph Awomi (26) s/o Khutovi Awomi,  Ngopzopo village, Zunheboto, said the press release. On interrogation, the duo stated that they have served “extortion demand notes” earlier to some business establishments in Dimapur and had come to collect the money from these shops, according to the police.

The press release also said that a case was registered in this connection and investigation had been initiated to identify the business establishments to whom the “demand notes” were served. This was aimed at taking punitive action against these business establishments for “abetment to the crime”, if money was paid to the “extortionists”, said the police.
