SEC to conduct municipal, town council polls: Nikhil

Nagaland governor Nikhil Kumar, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 25 (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 has directed that the elections to the Municipal and Town councils in the state be held under the superintendence, control and supervision of the State Election Commission, and as per schedule to be decided and notified by the state EC.

This was in compliance with the High Court’s judgment dated 21/10/2011 in WP (C) NO. 147 (K) 2011.
Further, reservation of seats for women, vide Notification No. MAC/ HOME-9/ 2006(A) dated 16/11/2009 and Notification No. MAC/ HOME-9/2006(B) dated 16/1112009, under Section 23 A (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001 (Amended), will be affected in the ensuing general elections to the Municipalities, a DIPR report stated.
