Amidst the onset of winter and busy schedules of the statehood day and far away from the annual Hornbill event, the Woolen Expo 2011 was inaugurated at Dimapur in the supermarket area, near Hotel Saramati on Thursday.
The event is a first of its kind and is aimed at promoting and encouraging local entrepreneurs to the woolen trade through the networks of Indian Chamber of Commerce, North East initiatives based at Guwahati.
The function was presided by Nivedita Barthakur, Assistant Director of ICC and welcomed by the advisor, ICC, Nakib Ahmed.
In his address to the gathering composed of weavers, handloom entrepreneurs, officials of government departments, self help groups and numerous participants on the opening day, advisor, Nakib Ahmed thanked the citizens of Dimapur for responding to the initiative of ICC which is the first so far in Dimapur.
He expressed the efforts of the ICC in promoting development of woolen and allied textile all over the country and encouraged the entrepreneurs to avail the network of ICC.
Nakib Ahmed appealed to Naga Council Dimapur which is made the patron organization for the ongoing expo to seek the intervention of the state government to establish a wool bank which is vital in the promotion of the trade for the local entrepreneurs for the simple reason that without raw material, machines or equipments for production of woolen products stand meaningless.
President of Naga Council Savi Liegise who was chief guest, attended with 11 councilors from various tribe Hohos.
Savi Liegise thanked the ICC for endeavoring to organize the first woolen expo in Dimapur which is in the benefit of the local citizens, especially those who are in the trade of wool and handloom.
He urged the local artisans, weavers, entrepreneurs to avail the facilities of the ICC at its fullest in order to enhance their business to wider network.
The president assured the council will explore all possibilities to appeal to the government to establish a wool bank at Dimapur.
Among others who spoke during the inaugural included the vice president of Naga council, T. Bangerloba Ao, Ntsemo Ngullie, general secretary, Naga council and Mhalo, wife of former minister, Dr. TM Lotha who spoke on behalf of SHGs and local entrepreneurs.
Altogether, the woolen expo stalls will accommodate about 50 entrepreneurs who have already fully furnished their respective Stalls. The exhibition will be open till December 10.
