A major fire was averted due to alertness of the residents of Upper PWD colony and prompt action of the fire department when fire started from a house located in the colony when the occupants were away Friday morning.
The fire reportedly detected at around 5.25 a.m. from a government quarter (Type-V). The neighbours and resident of the colony immediately swung into action and contained the fire from further spreading to adjoining houses. Fire tender later doused the fire though the quarter was completely razed.
Meanwhile, PWD Colony Panchayat, Kohima chairman Ketsodil Neikha, in a release, thanked the neighbours and the fire brigade for their prompt action in preventing the fire from spreading further and dousing the fire.
The colony chairman also thanked the deputy commissioner, Kohima and SP Kohima who immediately rushed to the spot and physically supervised the situation. He further expressed gratitude to all the people who took part to help during the fire incident.
