4 Meghalaya girls rescued from Silchar brothel, 2 arrested

Meghalaya and Assam police in a joint raid rescued four girls between the age group of nine and 28 from a red-light area in Silchar. Cachar Superintendent of police Deepak Chaudhary said while four girls were rescued from the brothel situated at the Radhamadhav Road locality in this southern Assam town, two more were arrested from the red-light area allegedly for their involvement in the trafficking of the Meghalaya girls.
He said a team of about 15 policemen from Shillong (Meghalaya) along with a functionary of Civil Society Women Organisation, a Shillong-based NGO reported to him here at 0500 hrs, and in cooperation with the Cachar police (Assam), they conducted the raid in the brothel and managed to rescue the girls and subsequently arrested the two women. They have been taken to Shillong in Meghalaya for further investigation
