Abducted timber trader killed

A local timber trader identified as one Vikugha (Avi) Zhimomi (30), son of Hozheto Zhimomi, of S. Hotovi village, resident of Kevijau colony, Dimapur who was reportedly abducted by two unidentified local miscreants February 15 and was found dead at Vihoto village, Jalukie road Friday, police said.

According to police, the deceased, who was the owner of M/S. Vikugha saw mill, was abducted by two local miscreants on February 15 midnight from his residence, Kevijau colony. The miscreants also took away a laptop and three cell phones, police added.

On February 16 at around 3 a.m., the two miscreants returned to the victim’s residence and demanded the “chowkidar” to handover the victim’s Hyundai i10 (NL 07 6857). However, when the chowkidar refused, the miscreants reportedly called up the victim and asked him to instruct his chowkidar to comply with their demand. The chowkidar then handed over the keys of the car.

On the same day, the miscreants forced the victim to call up one of his colleagues and arrange Rs. 70,000. They also ordered the victim to ask his colleague to bring the money to his saw mill at 6:30 a.m. However, the miscreants did not turn up.

On the same day Police were informed of the incident, the victim again called up his colleague to bring the amount near ICICI bank, Midland area. However, again neither the miscreants nor the victim turned up.

On Friday morning, some farmers found a body lying few meters down from Vihoto village, Jalukie road and informed the police. The body was later identified as that of Vikugha and bore gun-shot wound on the head believed to have been fired from a .22 pistol. So far, police said probe was on to nab the miscreants, while the car was yet to be recovered.

Orgs condemn killing
Kuhuboto Ghakhu Students’ Union (KGSU) has “strongly condemned” the killing of Vikugha, and said it would not tolerate the inhuman act.
KGSU, in a statement issued by its president Botoi V. Yeptho, urged the responsible authority to take nab the culprits and punish them as per the law of the land. It also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.

TTWUD: Timber Traders Welfare Union, Dimapur (TTWUD) has mourned the demise of its information secretary Vikugha Zhimomi, who was abducted and killed by miscreants.

In a condolence message, TTWUD president Henizhe Awomi and general secretary I. Wati Lemtor described the deceased as “very simple and kind hearted persons.”

Stating that Vikugha had served the union with a true vision till his last breath, the union said they have lost a “bright young man”. TTWUD has conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that departed soul rest in peace.
