Former state home minister Thenucho Tunyi has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) asking the commission to clarify to the allegations being made by some vested interests in Nagaland that he was instrumental in the preparation of the draft working paper of the delimitation commission for Nagaland in the delimitation exercise.
In a letter to Election Commission of India principal secretary, the former home minister said he was an associate member from the state of Nagaland of the delimitation commission set up under the delimitation Act, 2002.
Thenucho said in connection with the delimitation exercise, started by the delimitation commission in respect of Nagaland, a draft working paper was prepared by the secretariat of the delimitation commission.
However, he said for some reasons well known to the commission, and on the intervention of the high court, the delimitation exercise could not make much progress and it was ultimately abandoned by the delimitation (Amendment) Act, 2008.
According to former home minister it was being alleged in some parts of Nagaland by “some mischievous elements in order to defame me” that he was instrumental in the preparation of the draft working paper of the delimitation commission for Nagaland.
He reminded the Election Commission of India that draft working paper was prepared solely and independently by the secretariat of the commission and none of the associate members had any specific role in the preparation of that draft working paper.
“I shall be obliged if this position is confirmed so that the wild allegations being made against me by some vested interests in Nagaland can be effectively answered and refuted,” said Thenucho.
