NPF rejects BJP charges against state government

March 29, 2012 | by admin

Responding to what it described “wild and baseless allegations” against the NPF-led DAN government by the BJP, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) Wednesday asserted it rejected the allegations, saying “unsubstantiated statements” of the BJP were “misleading and completely inaccurate” having “no justifications whatsoever.”

BJP’s northeast in-charge P. Chandrasekhar Rao talking to reporters March 26 alleged Nagaland government was “debt trapped” and had no means to raise funds to come out of those debts.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the NPF press and media bureau said the BJP statements “in fact” highlighted the culture of national parties whose central leaders “simply come on a flying visit and make wild allegations against one and all and fly out within hours without understanding any ground realities at the grass root level.”

According to press bureau, the NPF “has been stressing on this aspect”, as leaders of national parties were cut off from the “realities in the far corners of the country as they practice the culture of high command politics from distant and disconnected Delhi.”

It stated that Naga people have rejected “such alien culture” and have placed their “confidence” in the regional party because it was “only through” a regional party that the “unique problems and important issues” that concerned the people could be addressed.

For the NPF, the press bureau reiterated the assertions of the party leaders that its “real high command” was the citizens of the state, adding they did not “depend on the authority of high commands in Delhi to run the affairs of Nagaland.”

Maintaining that there should be “basis and concrete evidence” for accusing others, the NPF press bureau said or else the leaders making such statements were “simply making a fool of themselves.”

NPF press bureau said either the BJP leadership was unaware of the “massive progress and development” that was taking place in Nagaland under the DAN government or the leaders who flew in for a few hours were misled by their local leaders.

Perhaps, said the NPF the local leaders were also being misused by other political parties for “cheap political gains” and were “jealous” of the DAN government’s “successful achievements.”

Stating that NPF rejected the stand of the BJP’s statements, the press bureau said it observed that a responsible national party should speak and act in a responsible manner”.

“If indeed the BJP cared for the people of Nagaland or consider themselves as protectors of democracy, what did the BJP do when President’s rule was undemocratically imposed upon the Naga people in 2008?” the NPF queried.

It went on to assert that if their central leaders cared for the Naga people, they should travel to all corners of the state and try to understand the issues that concerned the Nagas.

The NPF pointed out that “merely flying in for a few hours” and making “bombastic statements” had no meaning and people would not be convinced in any manner.

Further, the NPF pointed out that only recently BJP leaders were appreciative of the DAN government’s initiatives, programmes and policies but suddenly they seemed to have changed their stand. “Such an approach exposes their own standing and reveals that that are cut off from the people,” remarked the NPF press bureau.
