Farmers, youth encouraged to conserve rain, soil

An awareness programme on ‘Soil Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting’ was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre in Medziphema Lotha Baptist Church (MLBC) compound on March 30.

The programme was held to promote and encourage local farmers and youth on rain water harvesting and conservation of soil.
The function was graced by Joint Director ICAR, Dr. B.C. Deka and scientists cum specialist, Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee, Rakesh Kumar, Dr. A. Thirugnanavel, James Kikon and T. E. Ezung, Pastor MLBC.

The program was organized as a part of awareness creation under the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project, ICAR.

To counteract the threat of climate change different conservation methods, agronomic management options, integrated farming system, refined traditional techniques, and modern water harvesting structures suited for the local condition were discussed to enlighten the farmers.

Dr. B. C. Deka anticipated that through these improved technologies the problem of water in Nagaland during the lean period can be tackled in future.
