Hillary Clinton’s staff plan revolt against 80’s hair accessory

She was the United States Senator for New York for eight years and yet Hillary Rodham Clinton is guilty of committing the ultimate fashion faux pas for ‘any self-respecting New York City woman.’
In spite of the claim made by Manhattan’s favourite fictional fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw, that a scrunchie would never be sported by a native New Yorker, Mrs Clinton consistently ties her hair up with the Eighties hair accessory – a habit some of her staffers would like to put end to.
According to one of Mrs Clinton’s top aides, there is a general feeling that the scrunchie could be replaced by something more stylish.
‘Some of us are looking to ban the scrunchies,’ she confessed.
In a revealing feature by Elle about the Secretary of State’s career trajectory and personal transformation, an aide explained that the reason behind the pulled back look was an age-old excuse: convenience.
‘As a chick, it’s a big pain in the butt. The weather is different, and you’re in and out of the plane,’ she said. ‘[The staff] gets off that plane looking like garbage most days, but she has to look camera ready.
‘She said the reason she grew her hair long was that it’s easier. She has options.’ But the alternatives suggested by the State Department official it seems, do not include the fussy hair-tie worn by Mrs Clinton on those busy days.
The confession of the scrunchie ban has incited a frenzy of posts and discussions on the internet where even bloggers on parenting websites have an opinion on the matter.
But controversial hair accessory aside, Obama’s most important foreign affairs representative has been impressing the sartorial commentators of late, with her iconic pant suits and understated style, often stepping out in outfits she has frequently re-worn.
Elle’s Rachael Combe said in her piece: ‘To my eye, she’s finally hit her personal-style groove. She’s wearing teardrop-shape sapphires on her ears and a blue shirt. She’s been wearing blue a lot lately- the pastel pantsuits have gone to the back of the closet – and the color flatters her, bringing out her eyes.’
In contrast to the more feminine, aggressively fashionable First Lady, Mrs Clinton’s dress code is more modest, perhaps more in tune with the serious pro-women’s policies for which she dedicates her time to advocating.
But the Elle reporter attributes the increase of her all-round appeal to a less calculated set of choices.
