Acting on a tip-off, troops of 20 Assam Rifles (AR) Friday in an operation at Chumukedima ward No. 1 apprehended 13 NSCN (I-M) cadres along with one 9mm Pistol, one .22 Rifle, more than 3000 rounds ammo of various weapons, detonators and large amount of communication and surveillance equipments. IGAR (N) Pro in a statement said the operation incorporated humanitarian facets to act within existing cease fire ground rules, however “law breakers” were arrested to maintain peace in Nagaland.
PRO said cadres had set up a temporary hideout in the vicinity of a house belonging to one ‘ss’ Col. Yaritiva Lotha of NSCN (I-M), who is presently said to be residing at Herbon Camp.
It was reported that the cadres were using the safehouse for transit and storing the weapons and ammunition for short duration meant for further supply to other parts of the state, PRO added.
AR jawans cordoned the house and searched the area while the cadres panicked and attempted to flee. In the process, the fleeing cadres were apprehended without collateral damage PRO said adding, the search operation was successful.
PRO further said the effort by the security forces was appreciated by the residents of Chumukedima.
