Collection under preview of Municipal Act, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) clarifies

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has reacted to Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) statement, which disclosed that DMC taxed same vehicle twice – one under vehicle entry tax (irrespective of whether the vehicle was loaded or not) and other under loaded category for heavy vehicles.

In a release, DMC chief executive officer (CEO) Imtirenla Jamir said collection of taxes by DMC was carried out as per the provisions under Sec-120 (1) C, followed with Sec-175 (1) (2) & (3) of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001, adding taxes collected by it was under the preview of the Act.

CEO clarified that collection of vehicle entry of Rs.50 was meant to entry of vehicle only and Rs.100 was meant for vehicles carrying items like sand, mix sand, sand gravel, stone chips, boulders, bricks, stone dust etc.

DMC chief informed NCD that its toll collection should not be treated as “illegal collection” and also “not to equalize with other organisations.”

Also, clarifying that DMC was an autonomous body, CEO said wherever revenue generated were entirely utilized for civic services of the city and maintenance of vehicles used for sanitation works, staff salaries and other developmental activities.
