Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch launched a ‘Tree Plantation Drive’ on the theme “Youth on the Move” while observing World Red Cross Day on May 8 with the rest of the world. The formal launching programme began at 7:30 a.m. at NSF Solidarity Park, New Secretariat, Kohima.
Addressing the programme as chief guest, Divisional Forest Officer, Sidramappa MC, IFS called upon the participants to protect the environment, conserve and preserve the flora and fauna.
He appealed to every citizen to understand the serious issue of the hazardous global warming which was a threatening phenomenon confronting the people.
Lamenting that every individual was responsible for ruining of forest and environment he said that human activities are hurting and damaging the significance of forest and felt the need that restoration of the sane ought to be every individual’s responsibility.
Sidramappa recalled Sir Henry Dunant for his loyal humanitarian services to human society and appreciated him for his great service to humanity single handedly in the First World War.
Earlier, managing committee member Dr. S. Imkong Tushi Ao delivered the keynote address. He further said that each year while celebrating World Red Cross Day an appropriate theme was chosen to focus the activities of the Red Cross Movement, hence the theme this year is “Youth on the Move”.
Dr. Tushi Ao also said, “Today youth are full of energy, enthusiasm, ideas, vitality and force to bring about changes. In realisation of the youth participation and activities, the Red Cross and Red Crescent have considered the youth as integral part of the movement since 1922 and the fore runners of its values and humanitarian principles because of their voluntary and eagerness to be part of the activities,” he further said.
Meanwhile, in commemoration of World Red Cross Day, on May 8, the managing committee members, staff and volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch visited state governor Nikhil Kumar, and chief minister Neiphiu Rio, who are also the president and vice-president of the IRCSN respectively. The members led by general secretary Zakie Kire pinned Red Cross Flag on them.
Dimapur: Indian Red Cross Society, Dimapur district branch celebrated ‘World Red Cross Day’ by distributing 5000 pamphlets on the theme “Youth on the Move” to the citizens of Dimapur and students in particular.
DC Dimapur, Hushili Sema, IAS, gave a short speech to students of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School and encouraged them to participate in Red Cross movement and also to be responsible citizens of the society. She was accompanied by SDO(C) Dimapur, Atokhe Sema.
IRCS managing committee members K. K. Paul, Bhagchand Jain, Kuldeep Jain and Vikuto (Robin) were also present with other Dimapur Branch life members on the occasion. The awareness campaign covered 3 colleges and 8 schools in Dimapur.
Further, World Red Cross Day was also observed at Chakhro Baptist Mission School, Medziphema. About 200 students, teachers and staff attended the function.
MOKOKCHUNG: Indian Red Cross Society Mokokchung district branch along with the rest of the world celebrated World Red Cross Day on May 8 on the theme “Youth on the move.”
The day was highlighted by a tree plantation drive in and around Mokokchung town where six schools from Mokokchung town and youth from Mokokchung village participated.
30 JRC/YRC members from six schools along with teacher counselor, eight volunteers from three Red Cross volunteer cell, and ten Red Cross Life members assembled at Imlong Place Mokokchung town for distribution of Red Cross badges and tokens.
PHEK: Phek District of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) observed Red Cross society day on May 8 at DPDB hall, Phek on the theme “Youth on the Move” where Phek Government College Lecturer Nuthisa Rakho was the speaker. The daylong function was chaired by Hony Secretary IRCS Phek District Branch Dr. Mudozo.
KIPHIRE: IRCS Kiphire branch on Tuesday observed World Red Cross Day with T. Torechu chairman DPDB & parliamentary secretary CAWD as special guest at the residence of DC Kiphire on the theme ‘Youth on the Move.’
Addressing the gathering the special guest called upon members present and especially DPDB members to get enrolled in Red Cross society so that the movement reached the people in need and true essence of life on earth was fulfilled by rendering humanitarian service.
Lauding the Red Cross members for the humanitarian service rendered the special guest added; times are changing so we should all act with love and truth so that we are all blessed.
Er. Namang Sepong Chang EAC Kiusum, while giving the key note address said, “Youth is the greatest resources in our society and to harvest these resources will benefit the organisation and shaping the individual as well,” he added.
Sharing his experiences Tsointhe Life member said, ‘There is no organisation like that of Red Cross which serve humanitarian service to the people and added, being a member of the Red Cross not only gives opportunity for him to render service to people in need during disaster but also pave way to work as a team with different people”.
