Impokyimba of Longkhum village, better known as ‘Local Scientist’ who was well known for his handicraft works in an ingenious way passed away Tuesday morning at his native village Longkhum.
ImpokyimbaBorn on November 16, 1938, late Impokyimba was a soft spoken, kind hearted person and always had a caring heart.
Being widely known for his great works, lots of people both from outside as well as within visited his home.
During such visits he never let any guests return empty handed. He always gifted one thing or the other to his visitors.
He was a gifted and a talented person as his ingenuity in making things made him all the more unique.
Though he did not have much of a formal education, he went on to become a renowned craftsman, a traditional medicine practitioner (Kobiras), an Ayurvedic specialist and a resource person as he imparted trainings on handicrafts at various workshops.
His works are evident in his home as numerous crafts are displayed. During his lifetime, late Impokyimba received some well known awards including Governor’s Gold Medal on 15th Aug 2005.
The 58th Ao Students’ General Conference held at Merangkong in Jan 1994 named him ‘Local Scientist’. Besides these, a certificate of vocational Award was also given to him by the Rotary Club of Mokokchung on 20th Oct 2003. He was a man of example and he proved this through his life.
His works, his advices and his guidance will be remembered by those people who have come across him in his life time. He is survived by his wife Kitimenla, five children and eight grandchildren.
Late Impoyimba’s funeral will be held on May 16, 11pm at Longkhum village. Meanwhile, Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed shock over the sudden demise of S. Ayim Longkumer on May 15 of Longkhum village.
A condolence message issued by AKM stated late Ayim was a recipient of ‘AKM Local Scientist’ commendation who was awarded in the year 1994, during its 58th general conference at Merangkong village.
He was a true son of the soil with the knowledge of innovative ideas; he modified many tools which was a huge contribution to the society, stated AKM and further prayed the Lord would grant solace to the bereaved family members at this hour of grief.
