Excise and prohibition department of Kohima destroyed huge quantity of IMFL, beer, yeast and Ganja which was seized between October 2011- April 2012 at KMC dumping site Kohima on Wednesday.
The destroyed items included IMFL (750ml) 4262 bottles, IMFL (375 ml) 201 bottles, IMFL (180ml) 297 bottles, IMFL (open) 32 bottles, beer (659ml) 2515 bottles, beer (500ml) 1794 bottles, yeast 5 carton, Ganja 600 kgs. Altogether, items worth around Rs. 37,47,700 in the street value were destroyed, department informed.
The items were seized mainly from check gate, hotels, shops, smugglers, suspected places in and around Kohima town, the department said.
DC excise & narcotic and chairman of the destruction board N. Lotha briefing the media at the site said the success of the prohibition depended on the will of the people.
The department was trying its best to perform the duty though there was shortage of manpower, added Lotha.
Those present at the destruction site included district administration , Kohima municipal council, Kohima village youth organization, SP Kohima, and SP excise Kohima.
