Public Action Committee (PCA) asked to apologise

June 5, 2012 | by admin

Western Sumi Students Union(WSSU) and Western Sumi Youth Organisation(WSYH) have taken strong exception to the statement of Coordinator Public Action Committee/Naga Council Joel Nillo Kath wherein the latter had castigated the Western Sumi Kukami Hoho(WSKH) and WSSU for criticizing the PAC on verification drive on illegal migrants in Dimapur.

WSSU president Daniel H.Sumi and general secretary Abeto Swu, in a joint statement demanded an immediate public apology from the PAC coordinator Joel Nillo Kath for flaring up communalism against the western Sumis.

WSSU said that by “crossing functional limits” the PAC coordinator had caused “injury to the Sumi community’s sentiments” by “forcefully projecting the Western Sumis as patrons of illegal immigrants” just because the Sumi frontal organisations had raised questions about the Naga Council’s modus operandi.

WSSU reiterated that the issue of illegal migrants should be tackled by the government since it was a national issue. The signatories said no NGO can be licensed to tax illegal migrants lest their (illegal migrants) existence become legitimized.

Further, WSSU pointed out to the PAC coordinator that unlike the Naga Council, whose jurisdiction was restricted within government patta land in Dimapur(as per Naga Council constitution); WSSU on the other hand with headquarters at Dimapur, addresses  important public issues. It termed Kath’s statement of terming western Sumis as being marginalized by “majority miah members” was “demeaning and challenging Sumi existence.”

On the fee charged for verification drive by PAC, the WSSU said it understood Joel Nillo Kath’s “interest to earn money to fulfill his political ambition and election” and advised him to “look for other avenues to earn money.”

Further, WSSU said Joel’s knowledge of ISI and Jihadi agents linked with muslims in Dimapur should be made public as to which Sumi area/village was patronizing these anti-social activists. It also said the Amy, Research Analysis Wing(RAW) and Intelligence Bureau(IB) and others must “salute the concrete information” which Joel had at his disposal.

WSSU reiterated that it had never opposed the idea of flushing out illegal migrants. WSSU said Joel’s “emotional outburst” by lashing out against Sumis and holding them responsible for presence of illegal migrants in Nagaland cannot be comprehended just because it had objected to excess monetary charges (for ID) and harassing innocent citizens.

WSSU said it had  objected to “high rate charged by the PAC on registration”  for the “monetary profit project” and felt such verifications was within the preserve of the government.  WSSU said, Joel “instead of reasoning” flared up “communalism against Sumis.”

WSSU also asked Joel Nillo Kath to answer the following seven questions:
1.What have Sumis done to him that he held Western Sumis responsible for illegal immigrants?
2.If  ID card is fool proof or legitimizes documents of illegal immigrants?
3.Is the problem of illegal immigrant a PAC/Naga Council issue or a state issue?
4.Why should WSKH/WSSU be held responsible in future?
5.What will the PAC do with all  3,00,000 registration forms sold as it amounted to Rs.250 x3,00,000= Rs.7,50,00,000?
6.Is Jihadi an excuse to mint money for his election?
7. Is taxation the only way to contain illegal immigrants?

WSYF demands apology from Joel
DIMAPUR, JUN 4 (NPN): Reacting strongly Naga Council/PAC coordinator Joel Nillo Kath’s statement that slammed Western Sumi Kukami Hoho (WSKH) and Western Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) for “shouting against the PAC verification drive on illegal immigrants”, Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) Monday said statements of WSKH and WSSU were not against eradicating the problems created by the illegal migrants but had put forward suggestion “purely out of concern for increasing menace” caused by illegal migrants, which did not “deserve such condemnation.”

A joint statement issued by WSYF president Kakiye Zhimo and general secretary Mughavi Chishi described “very misleading and provocative” the statement issued by Joel Nillo Kath that “Sumis in Niuland sub-division are being dominated by mians and are being forced to issue statements”.

Reminding Jole Nillo Kath that Sumis of Niuland or any other place were never dominated and would never be dominated by any community or tribe let alone the mians, WSYF said “his statements reflect his personal hatred towards the Sumis for which he should be answerable to the Sumis.”

WSYF said, considering the severity of his statement, Joel Nillo Kath tender apology to the Western Sumis through the media within 24 hours starting 6 a.m. June 5, 2012.

“Failure on his part to comply with this directive may compel the WSYF to take its own course of action against him for which WSYF should not be held responsible,” they said.
