Irked by government’s apathy towards the road development in Toluvi village area, the joint village councils of Bamun Pukhuri ‘A’ & ‘B’, Purana Bazaar ‘B’ (Bokajan), Samaguri, Toluvi and Zani village, decided to take up road developmental programme covering 8-10 km PWD road between Bamun Pukhuri ‘A’ (New Naga Cemetery junction) to Purana Bazaar ‘B’ (Bokajan), which according the village leaders have remained totally neglected by the government.
Road improvement work under the supervision of joint village council members commenced August 1 from Bamun Pukhuri ‘A’.
According to chairman of joint village councils, Vikugha Assumi the road remained in worst condition for many years together and despite repeated appeal made by the joint council government has not shown any interest to develop the road.
Members of joint council also claimed that various political leaders of the ruling government had given assurance to take up the work, which was still waiting to be materialized.
Vikugha maintained that lives of thousands of population living in the area become miserable especially during rainy season as the road becomes un-motorable and even school going children were not able to attend school. It is learned that many top government officials including legislators of the state government own a plot of land in the area.
On the failure of the government to react to several appeal of the joint council, the joint council convened a meeting of all GBs, village council and VDB members and elders of the six villages on July 21 last and resolved to develop the road on the expense of the six villages.
Two land excavator and 10 dumper trucks have been pressed into service for the work and over 40 truckloads of sand gravel were dumped to raise the level of road which would prevent water logging.
The joint council meanwhile has asked owners of the brick fields located in the area to assist the council by way of providing wastes produced at brick kilns.
The council informed that trucks of any brick field not willing to cooperate with the council will not be allowed to ply on that road.
The council has further appealed to the public of the area to cooperate in the effort of the joint council and not cause any hindrances during the course of the work.
