Ghukiye village council expressed that due to the ongoing up-gradation of two lane road from Chakabama to Zunheboto via Chozuba, the road between Langki and Zunheboto was practically not pliable during monsoon season, wherein, the only alternative and shortest road connectivity from Zunheboto to Kohima Dimapur was via Langki river (Ghukiye), Doyang connecting NH 61 at Kandiniu point, which was recently constructed under PMGSY.
Ghukiye village council chairman, T. Kiheto Jimo, and secretary, K. Ghotovi Jimo, in a joint press statement stated for the convenience of the people of Zunheboto and for all including government officials and VIPs, a wooden bridge was erected over Langki river by the village council as the ongoing construction of RCC bridge was still in a nascent stage.
It however said that despite its mission, even the said road was not presently in use as a particular portion of road above Langki river towards Zunheboto was badly damaged by landslide.
The statement also stated that when it approached the contractors for clearance of the damages, they were told that maintenance works could be done only when fund for such additional work was provided by the concerned department.
In the light of the facts, the PWD (R&B) department has been urged to look into the genuine and situation demand and further appealed for financial assistance for construction of wooden bridge in the form of remuneration.
